Remembrance

In these tumultuous times, we reflect upon those moments in time where we have collectively come together in witness to an important event or occurrence in our lives or in the lives of another.

We perhaps recall where we were during the birth of a child, the death of a family member or of a happy time shared with a loved one.

We all remember, sometimes in utter horror, of where we were during September 11th.  To this day, the visions of those buildings and of the people whose lives were lost – and of the bravery during the aftermath, are forever engraved in our minds.  Let us never forget the sacrifices were made by both civilian and soldier.

For many of us, it is the beginning of understanding.  For others, it can be a deepening of our commitment to God and to His church.  Journey’s usually start with a single step – a step toward our eternal destination.  Some enter by way of lifelong trial, some by coming back to rediscover what they had left behind.  It is important to note that everyone is accepted by Jesus if they just open their hearts to Him – to learn, to love and to pass on His legacy of hope, faith and renewal.

Even Saint Matthew whose feast day we celebrate this month, was far from holiness but became a model of God’s divine mercy.  Follow His light of grace and you will find the treasures you are seeking.  This is His gift to us – the gift of remembrance.

May the wind be at your backs and may you feel the gentle breath of the Holy Spirit.  May peace be with you, always.

Sometimes I pray for god; to answer a certain prayer.
And as it's left unanswered; I wonder if he's there!

Listening as I ask; for things that I want or need
and then my eyes are opened; so that my heart can see.

That god will always answer; our prayers, in his own time.
Maybe not the way we ask; but what's best for us down the line.

So I try to stay patient; and remember God gives to me,
everything that's needed; until I can finally be.

With him way up in heaven; where everything I’ll see is as peaceful and perfect; for all eternity.
Because God is the only one; who knows what is best.
And with unanswered prayers; our faith he puts to the test.
